We are supposed to have the first major storm of the winter blow in. Snow, strong winds and frigid temperatures. I can hear the howling wind outside our window as I type this… The pending storm caused us to draft a letter up of winter safety reminders and with President and Sister Matheson’s approval we sent it out last night to all the missionaries and pray they heed the directions on how to stay safe in the storm.

There are many kinds of storms in one’s life and being thankful in a storm is not always easy but my sweet Sister-in-love Jennie is an example of this attribute!

For the last 9 plus years she has battled a rare form of stomach cancer. She has had many stormy days and near death experiences and yet she looks to the Savior for hope, strength and comfort and it comes.

One day when I came to visit her I noticed a box of goodies by the door with a note thanking the delivery drivers for all they do and inviting them to take a treat. This is Jennie she thinks of others when she could so easily be swallowed up in her own problems. She trusts the Lord’s timing and has developed the ability to see through the storm and sees the beauty life has to offer.

Recorded in the Book of Mormon, an inspired and loving father told his sons how to strengthen themselves to stand steady in the storms ahead of them: “And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, … whereon if men build they cannot fall.”

President Erying said..,

“When the storms in life come, you can be steady because you are standing on the rock of your faith in Jesus Christ.

He has said “Come unto me.” He invites you, out of love for you and for those you love, to come to Him for peace in this life and eternal life in the world to come.

The Savior knows the storms and the places of safety on the way home to Him and to our Heavenly Father. He knows the way. He is the Way. I so testify in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen.”

I set this “Thank you” table up for delivery drivers in the mission office inspired by you my DEAR sister Jennie💗. Thank you for your beautiful living example of trusting the Lord and being Thankful in the Storm.
