Recently I had a conversation with someone about how contention never solves a problem.
I am the oldest of 4 and the only girl. Growing up if there were unkind words said my wise Mom would quote from the movie Bambi.

In the movie Thumper (a young rabbit) is watching Bambi learn to walk and says “he’s kinda wobbly” He is corrected by his mother, who makes him repeat what his father had told him that morning, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothing at all”

Elder Davis’s mother who when asked what counsel she would give her posterity at the age of 91 without hesitation said “Be Kind”

In a world where contention on social media, in the news, in our neighborhoods and sad to say sometimes in our families happens, we need to follow the counsel of wise mothers and fathers who teach what Jesus taught.
Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”
Our Mission President, President Matheson addressed this subject in one of his Kairos moments.
July 1, 2025 – “Just because we can say or do something doesn’t mean we should. The ultimate display of power is in choosing the restraint not to use it.
Reacting to the emotional outbursts of others with an equal amount of anger is the opposite of restraint. It typically leads to a reckless game of verbal chicken, usually ending in damaged relationships, reduced opportunity for dialogue, and little chance of compromise or productive outcomes. Speak in anger and you will deliver the greatest speech – you will ever live to REGRET!
We would be wise to remember, that no one who plants thistles in the spring expects to harvest fruit in the fall. We should not think for a single, solitary second that those who perpetually plant contention and contempt are expecting to reap love and kindness later.
The Savior taught, “By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples; if ye have love one to another.” President Nelson has invited us to be peacemakers.”
At this Christmas time when life gets busy and emotions can flare. Let’s remember to watch what we say, try to see everyone around you in their true identity Children of God and be kind!

SMILE somebody LOVES YOU!
